Lost Love

I see you in my heart still
    to this day
    I hear you, your voice,
    and the things you'd say
    I can imagine your laughter
    or your sacred touch
    your gentle playfulness
that used to mean so much.
    all of these things,
    I can still see
when it was just you and me
    against all odds
    fighting the world
used to think it was our faith
    that kept us together
    indestructable strength
    could have lasted forever
    so damn strong and true
    nothing to slow it down
    except me or you
and yes, that day did come
    and yes, here we are
    in worlds undone
    there seemed endless possibilities
    back then in time
    nothing to stop us
    except in your mind.
    forget those days we've lost
all the times forfeited at cost
    to someone else's pain
    only to replay
    again and again
    just remember a sunset
when you think of us this way
    because nothing gold can stay.
